There’s cars you don’t see everyday, and then there’s a $1,000,000 1969 Dodge Charger Daytona 426 Hemi. As one YouTube commenter put it, “Seeing one of these outside of a museum is like seeing a lion that broke out of the zoo”. So imagine our surprise when we were offered the chance to detail one of these ultra-rare muscle cars at our detailing clinic in October!
When we say this car is rare, we mean rare. Only 550 Dodge Charger Daytonas were manufactured by Chrysler in 1969. Only 70 were made with a 426 Hemi engine. Only 22 were 4 speed. Only 2 had black paint. And only one had a white interior. With only 38,000 miles on this uncommon vehicle, it’s not surprising it’s estimated at $1,000,000 in value.
The vehicle was originally purchased in South Carolina and is now owned by the Tom Lembeck collection. With the MECUM auction in Schaumburg coming up October 21-23, Tom thought the skilled detailers coming to attend the Dr. Beasley’s “Future of Detailing” clinic earlier that week would be the perfect team to prep the vehicle.
For a closer look at the car, check out this video from Lou Costabile at “My Car Story”:

interesting article, do you know how many came out with a black exterior / red interior?
I saw a Superbird at a dealership and it was a sight to see.
I wish I had an answer to this too. Mine is black with red interior 440 4speed. Was it 2 black 426’s or just 2 black that were produced
